Dental Checkups & Teeth Cleanings for Kids

Just like adults, children should have their teeth examined and cleaned by a dental professional every six months. Taking care of the small problems now will protect your child from bigger dental issues later. We can also use these visits to keep you up to date on your child’s dental development.

Dental Sealants

Children are usually ready to start brushing their teeth between the ages of 6 and 9. However, it will take them time to develop the dexterity to clean their mouths as thoroughly as possible. In the meantime, we can help protect their molars – the teeth near the back of the mouth that tend to be at the highest risk for cavities – by placing dental sealants. The sealants close off the pits and crevices of the teeth so that bacteria and harmful food particles don’t get trapped in them.

Fluoride Treatments

Once we’re done cleaning your child’s teeth, the last step is to apply a highly concentrated fluoride gel or varnish to their teeth. Fluoride can strengthen the enamel protecting the teeth, making your child much less likely to suffer from cavities. Professional fluoride treatment can be done in just a few minutes, and the process is entirely painless. This makes it a great way to give your child a little extra help in avoiding cavities in the months between now and their next appointment.

Tooth-Colored Fillings

At some point, even with good oral hygiene habits, your child might develop a cavity. If this ever happens, we can remove the decayed parts of the tooth and replace them with a filling made out of composite resin. The fillings we offer can be shaded to match the natural color of teeth, so your child will have no trouble smiling confidently around their peers even after they’ve had dental work done. Tooth-colored fillings are also conservative and can be placed without removing too much natural enamel.
